David Suchet wins RTS Lifetime Achievement Award

On 18 March in London, The Royal Television Society (RTS), Britain's leading forum for television and related media, has announced the winners of the RTS Programme Awards 2013.

The evening culminated in the most significant honour — the RTS Lifetime Achievement Award. This highly prestigious award was given to David Suchet in recognition of his outstanding performance as Poirot, a role which he adopted for 25 years and for which he has become almost synonymous with the character, beloved by readers and viewers alike. Suchet is the only actor to have performed all of Agatha Christie's stories featuring the fastidious Belgian sleuth, including a one-off theatre production of the play Black Coffee.

Sadly, Suchet was taken ill shortly before the ceremony and was unable to attend. Mathew Prichard, Agatha Christie's grandson, received the award on Suchet's behalf, and made a moving speech thanking Suchet for his dedication to one of Agatha Christie's best loved characters.
